“Arran d’estany: paisatges d’ahir i d’avui” (By the lakeshore: landscapes of yestarday and today) is a temporary outdoor exhibition that proposes a journey through the Banyoles lake, through thirteen unique photographs from the beginning of the 20th century located in the place from where they were taken.

Some red metallic volumes become the landmarks that mark the points from where the photogra---phs were taken. Once located, these sculptural elements become viewfinders, dark cameras that, through a small hole, reveal the image hidden inside. The photographs, printed on translucent methacrylate, are visualized inside the module thanks to the external light.

Driven by curiosity, the visitor adopts the singular position of the photographer from the beginning of the last century to view, one after the other, the thirteen images of the itinerary and compare them, live, with the current landscape. With this small ritual, the exhibition aims to encourage a slow and attentive look at the details, to reflect on the passage of time and to spread the importance of preserving photographic heritage and the work of archives.

“Arran d’estany: paisatges d'ahir i d'avui” is an exhibition organized by the Arxiu Comarcal del Pla de l'Estany with the collaboration of the Ajuntament de Banyoles and the Consell Comarcal del Pla de l'Estany. It has formed part of the project “Catalunya país d’arxius, documents que fan Europa” of the Culture Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, within the framework of the International Archives Congress 2025, based in Barcelona.
